Lillian, I'm so sorry to read this and Dennis I bet you are heartbroken too. Rusty was known by lots of people who all have lovely memories of him, he was a smashing dog in agility, at home and had a super personality. He wouldn't want you to be upset, he would want to bring you joy now as he always did, remember the good times for him and smile. Love Donna, xxx

With much sorrow I have to tell you that Rusty was put to sleep this afternoon. The senior vet at our practice diagonosed cancer.
Lillian,Dennis,Ernie & myself were with him at the end.
He was a super little agility dog and one our most succesful competition dogs. We all loved him.

Oh no, this is so sudden its hard to believe. Sometimes, I think dogs hide pain and problems too easily and by the time they can't hide it anymore its too late for us to help. Keeps us posted, DO NOT give up hoping, please let us know what the senior partner says. Give Rusty a kiss from me and keep us posted. Love, Donna xxx

thanks everybody for your best wihes. I brought Rusty home Monday evening, a shadow of his former self. Aparently his pancreatis is better but what is giving cause concern is his high calcium levels which can indicate a growth. The scan didn't show anything so they have done yet another blood test which is supposed to very accurate ( that will be another £133 please!)and I think the results will be through on Thursday.
Rusty's breathing was very wheezy so Tuesday morning I am back in the vets who after listening to his lungs said he thought it was a tumour and there was nothing more they could do for him and I should let him go.I wasn't ready to do that so I brought him home. His breathing improved on Tuesday afternoon and he finally settled and slept a long while and when he woke he was much brighter and he even wagged his tail for Dennis when he appeared.
He is not eating he has had nothing since Monday so last night I fed him some goat's milk through a syringe.I did that every 2 hours in the hope he will get some nourishment. I think he is so traumatised by being force fed he is afraid to eat.
He is sleeping a lot and I am praying that he will slip away in his sleep so I am spared the agony of having to make that final decision.
I am seeing the senior partner tomorrow for a second opinion.
I just can't believe how suddenly he has gone downhill. Rusty has always been such a strong healthy little dog and I anticipated him living to a ripe old age, 12 is no age for a miniature poodle

Been on a roller coaster ,at 6pm vet phoned to say that Rusty may not last the night.
Another phone call at midnight there was a slight improvement he was a little more conscious but I wasn't to raise my hopes
4.30am after a sleepness night Rusty was up and barking and wagging his tail and had been out to spend a penny . Needless to say I was overjoyed and finally slept for a couple of hours
9,am Vet phoned to say improvement had continued but he wasn't eating and they may have to force feed him. They still think he may have a growth and he may have an ultra scan this afternoon. He is not out of the woods and the crunch will come when they withdraw treatment, But so far so goog
